I've never really used a postmortem log before, but after putting out two visual novels, as short as they are, it does feel that I do have some thoughts about them.

In the past, BL-oriented things were rather hard to find, and also rather underground. Yaoi games weren't all that available to everyone, and back then many of us needed IRC to download them - usually on a shared computer. I had to share a computer with not just two brothers but two other cousins as well, and as you can tell, there were quite a few instances where I did get caught and lectured at! Even reading fanfiction and doujinshi was difficult, not to mention games. I don't know about anyone else, but I simply kept my stories and pictures in ink and paper, in a notebook or personal paper file.

But today, we've got game jams and a treasure trove of BL and yaoi games and visual novels online, easy to find, download and enjoy in private. They're easy to make too, what with simple tools such as Ren'Py, RPG Maker, Unity and Twine. We've also got hosting sites such as itch.io, which we can easily upload to and make them simple to find.

Putting out these two games has humbled me quite a bit. We get into a lot of fights, disagreements and arguments in the BL/yaoi world, but a lot of things have been made available for us at the same time that we may have taken for granted, both as a consumer and a creator. I feel it's easy to forget to say "thank you" to our game creators, contributors, hosts and development tool makers, especially those who have made their games, tools, raw images or sounds and platforms completely free to download and use.

I'm very thankful that I can even make my own games today and host them somewhere, even those that are only shared in private with a small circle of friends. There was a time when I don't think I would have even dared to imagine doing so.

So, to all the freeware developers, stock image/sound, tool-creators and free hosting services out there, thank you! The world as we know it wouldn't be the same without you. Bless!
